U.S.S. SLC...USN...Leonard Paul Cigainero. RM3c
Leonard P. Cigainero passed away in Feb. of 1982. Information from son, Tim Cigainero Jul. 19th, 2010 Hello Ms Eskew My Name is Tim Cigainero, my father was assigned to the SLC from some time in 1941 to Nov 1942 as a radioman.....you have his designation as Rm3C. I was unaware of the importance his ship played in the "Doolittle Raid" until recently. I am retired Air Force and I am aware of how this mission helped change the momentum of the war. But, being AF, I never thought to look into the Navy history. I have contacted my oldest brother who is in possesion of a old leather bound album of the SLC. I remember looking through it as a child and loved the pictures and descriptions. Hopefully there are dates and notes on the pictures in the album. Dad had a knickname of "Ciggy or Cig". Dad passed away in Feb 1982....and I'm trying to verify a pic from the "transmitter gang group ID# 204" the sailor ID'd as number 4 sure looks like my Dad...he would have been about 18 or 19 at the time. I want to thank you for the time you have spent taking care of this website....bringing memories back to all the family members of all the shipmates of this "unsung" ship. It truly was a "One Ship Fleet" When my brother locates the album I mentioned earlier I will let you know and put you in contact with him.....again...thank you for all you've done and....God Bless America and the Men, Women, and Families that Serve Tim Cigainero #4 in Transmitter Gang-1941-44 Radio Gang List from James Murphy SLC Deck Log Nov. 1942 |
