Consent Calendar: No report
John Mercer thanked everyone for their continued support for the Association and attendance at the Reunion. He briefly discussed everything that goes into planning a Reunion and thanked everybody who has planned an event in the past. John thanked everyone for their support and confidence in him over the years he has planned Reunion events
Janet Veit thanked John for the work he has done to make this Reunion such an excellent one. She reminded the attendees that the Nimitz Museum in Texas maintains a plaque and a floral display in honor of the U.S.S. Salt Lake City.
Al Jowdy reported a balance of about $8,000 at the beginning of the Reunion. Last year there were 23 Dues paying members, 7 2nd Watch Donations and 2 Booster Club Donations. After all the Reunion bills are paid, he still expects a balance in the Association account around $4000.00, which average accounting for the end of a Reunion. Al thanked all who have given donations over the last year. He specifically mentioned members, Randy Oppenheimer, Kathy and Rodney Jones for their generosity.
He said our expenditures during the year are minimal: payment for the Website, Newsletter printing and postage. Thank you to Historian Sandy Eskew for her continued work on the Website and Newsletter.
Unfinished Business: None
John explained how reunions are organized and put together: the standing President, along with his/her appointed Executive Board work throughout the year. Many hours go into the planning and organizing before the reunion actually begins and that's just the beginning. John started a discussion about proposals for next year's 2019 Reunion. He presented a proposal submitted to him from Randy Oppenheimer for the Springfield/Boston area of Massachusetts. Jared Jowdy made a presentation for Jacksonville Florida and it's connection to the military and the Navy. Jeff Jowdy and Mike Asea agreed to host Jacksonville if selected by the Association. No other proposals were made or submitted. Members voted unanimously for Jacksonville as next year's Reunion location.
Election of President/Vice President: Motion by Dawn Freysinger and second by Charleen Hurton for Jeff Jowdy and Mike Asea for President and Vice-President respectively. Motion carried unanimously. President Elect Jeff Jowdy requested Al Jowdy continue as Association's Secretary/Treasurer for 2019, with the assistance of Louise Jowdy. Unanimously carried by members.
Good of the Association:
Rich Noar presented trophy/awards to several members who he identified as being over-achievers on behalf of the Association and it's members. Recognized were John Mercer, Janet Veit, Sandy Eskew, Al Jowdy, Jeff Jowdy, Randy Oppenheimer, Mike Asea and Kathy Jones. Also, honored were the veterans present at this year's Reunion, Al Jowdy, Sandy Oppenheimer and Walt Freysinger.
Motion to adjourn the meeting by Mike Asea and a seconded, by Charlene Hurton. Motion carried. The meeting was adjourned at 9:40 a.m.
