All the Ship's Company who served in this gallant lady from 1929 to decommissioning are invited to the Third Bi-Annual Reunion in Orlando, Florida next summer-13 months from now. There's plenty of time to make your plans to attend.
Reunion festivities will be held at the Orlando Hyatt House beginning with a no-host cocktail party on Thurs. evening, Aug. 11th. A full schedule of events are planned, terminating with divine services and brunch on Sun. Aug. 14th. The Orlando Hyatt House is located just opposite the entrance road to Walt Disney World...So bring the family.
Complete details of all events, including costs, will be sent out with formal registration notices about May 1st, 1977. In order that we may refine programming, please indicate your present intentions concerning attendance by sending a post card or letter now to me, C. H. Carroll, Longwood, FL.
Our first reunion was held in Salt Lake City, Utah, in June 1973 which was attended by 91 shipmates and 48 wives; the second reunion at San Diego, CA., in June 1975 saw 115 shipmates and 85 wives get together for a grand time. (Our only surviving skipper, VADM Bertram J. Rodgers, (retired) and his lovely wife Marie attended both reunions.) So, in spite of the wide dispersal of her ship's company - and the 30 years she's been gone - the USS Salt Lake City Association is a growing organization. Join us for a savory dip into nostalgia and for remembering old friends and times past!
The current roster of shipmates, with addresses, now contains nearly 400 names. A copy is enclosed. Our best source of information in locating and communicating with other shipmates is YOU! Would you please do two things? Check over the roster carefully for errors in any name or address - verify the correction and send it to me. But "Most" important - as you scan the list, names of "missing" shipmates will come to mind. Please take the time to write a note or make a telephone call to contact them - verify address and send name and address to me so that I might invite them to attend the reunion next year in Orlando. Let's make it our goal for each person on the roster to "dig up" at least one other shipmate for the Orlando reunion!
See you in Orlando in August 1977.
