USS SLC...Enlisted Navy...Edward E. Bennett

US FLAG Ed Bennett passed away March 22, 2001. Information found in Aug. 2001 SLC Association Newsletter & reported by daughter, Margie Bennett.
Source of Information: 1988 USS SLC Association Newsletter

Ed Bennett was President of the USS SLC Association for 1988-89 and in the June 1988 issue he did a section called "Who is Ed Bennett"

I joined the Navy in June, 1934. Went to Boot Camp in San Diego then met the SLC as she came through the Panama Canal from the East Coast. I was in the "Black Gang", then the "A" Division machine shop, under Chief Gilchrist. I was discharged in 1938 in San Franciso, CA.

I was called back in June, 1941 to Bremerton Seattle Pier 91, then Adak, Alaska on YR-38 repair barge.

I made Ensign, then transferred to Adak, decoded all messages during the Battle of the Komandorskies.

Later, two of us set up ship's repair facility on Adak in Finger Bay. I spent the last period at Williamsburg, VA. as Officer in Charge of Compressed Gas School.

We set up our company, Bennett & Associates some 29 years ago in Denver, CO.

Thanks to Veteran ball-red-02 James O'Hara, S1c for contributing past SLC Newsletters to the Website.
1988-89 SLC Association President

Ed attended the following SLC Reunion:   1983  1985  1987  1991  1993
