Ryland was the 1978-79 Association Vice President for area 5, living in San Antonio, Texas, where he was a native. He enlisted in 1937 and served in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre during WWII. He retired in 1957 as Chief Communications Technician, and then joined the Naval Security Group in Washington, D.C.

Ryland reviewed the script of TORA, TORA, TORA, on the Bombing of Pearl Harbor, to make sure security was not breached.

Ryland spent considerable time in his area trying to locate new Shipmates, and encourage them to come to our reunions. He will be missed by all his Shipmates.
