USS SLC...USN...Vernon Day, GM2c

Sept. 23rd, 2002

Vernon Day was born Dec. 4th, 1928 in AR. He enlisted in the Navy and entered active duty in Springfield, IL. on Dec. 12, 1945 and received his honorable discharge on Aug. 17, 1949.

On March 14th, 1946 he was assigned to the USS Salt Lake City CA25 for duty and reported to G. R. Lee, Commander & Executive Officer of the USN.

Commendation:
Specially Commeneded by Commander Task Unit 1.2.12, Joint Task Force One, for his outstanding performance of duty in connection with inspection and removal of ammunition, under most difficult and haszrdous conditions, from decommissioned Crossroads Target Vessels. This task is consider to be above and beyond the call of duty normally encountered in the Naval Service in noncombattant operative.
