Hi Sandy,

My name is Lew Dymond and I am the younger brother of PFC. William "Bill" Dymond. USMC. I have been doing some research on our family history and you can't imagine how excited I was to find that picture of Bill on your fantastic website. He is #2 in the Marine Detachment, 1943 picture sent in by ball-red-02 Deceased Daniel L. Fletcher, Corp.

His name also appears in the SLC Deck Log showing when he reported on board the USS SLC on Feb. 3rd, 1943

I thought that I would like to submit some information about Bill in the hope that someone will remember him from those days and contact me.

I was about eight years old when Bill joined the Marines and I remember clearly the start of W.W.II, and the day he left home. I also remember his infrequent visits to our home in Sacramento when his ship returned to the west coast. (There are a few pictures of him in our family album that were taken during those visits.) There are 16 years difference in our ages, and I have to say that I really did not know him until after the war when we became very close.

After he was discharged from the Marines, Bill worked at a couple of jobs and sold real estate while he attended San Jose State College in California. Upon graduating he became a teacher in the San Jose School District. Bill and his wife, also a teacher, spent their off time fishing in the Sacramento Delta or taking trips around California or across country in their Stinson airplane. It was during these years when I finally got to know my brother. We did a lot of fishing and a lot of flying.

As is typical I guess, Bill never spoke much about his time on the Salt Lake City, and I would like to know more about his service during the war.

Regards, Lew Dymond, brother
