USS SLC Enlisted Navy...Royce G. Elwell, S1c

US FLAG Royce G. Elwell passed away in March of 1990. He was buried at sea, I would appreciate it if you could list him as part of the crew. In a way, it gives me a memorial site to visit him.

Sandy,

I found your site after doing a search for the SLC. This past week end I found an I.D. in a cedar box that belonged to my father. The card indicated that he was aboard the SLC for Operation Crossroads. I don't know in what capacity he served, or even his rank at the time. (He was in his early 20s at the time and probably was a Seaman. I just don't know if the was 1st, 2nd or 3rd class.)

He went on to serve until 1968 and did a tour of duty in Vietnam aboard the USS Enterprise. In fact, he retired off of her, and by then had worked his way up the ranks to a Lieutenant. When I was 4, I remember attending his decomissioning ceremony which was held in one the hangers of the flat top.

Thank you
Larry W. Elwell
