US FLAG Robert E. Erickson passed away on Dec. 23rd, 2013. Information from dau. Lesley Beaudoin
Sandra,
I just came across a photo of my father on the extraordinary website you have created to honor those who served on the USS Salt Lake City. Thank you for the hours of research, time and love that have gone into this endeavor. Your father would be very proud, indeed! I have recently started my own genealogy research and it is so fascinating and rewarding.

I wanted to report to you that my father passed away. He is pictured in Group ID# 143, person #1, name Robert E. Erickson. He passed away on December 23, 2013. He talked very little about his time in the Navy and his story was largely untold. It is such a shame, though I don't think it was unusual for his generation. For many years he and Joseph Perez (#10 on the same photo) exchanged Christmas cards. We did not receive a card the last year or two that dad was alive, so I'm assuming Joseph had perhaps passed away or was no longer sending out cards.

Thank you for your dedication to this project! Wishing you all the best! Lesley Beaudoin
