Good Day Sandra,
Thank You for such a great web site on the USS Salt Lake City, my father served a short time on this great ship, and your site helps me to understand why he would not talk about the war.

At this point in time I do not know what day he arrived on the USS SLC. I do know by way of a newspaper clipping that he was there our forces took down the Ominato Naval Base. When I asked what he did on the USS SLC he said he was a gunner's mate and would not discuss the war. I do have his Separation paper from the U. S. Naval Service
I have attached two pictures of him one showing him in his Navy uniform and the second picture in his uniform with us four children. Left to right James Edward, Carl Sandy, Karen Sue and myself Raymond Spencer being held buy our father Carl Edward Friend.
Thank You, Raymond S. Friend
