US FLAG Roy Glidewell passed away on December 10th, 2002
Jan. 19th, 2001

Roy A. Glidewell was born in Burkesville, KY on March 29th, 1921. He entered the Navy on March 25th, 1940 and went aboard the USS Salt Lake City in June of 1940. He was in Australia in August of 1941 and on board in Dec. 1941 when they entered Pearl Harbor.

He participated in the occupation of Guadalcanal where the ship was damaged on Oct. 12, 1941. He was involved with all conquered possessions from June 1940 through the year of 1943.

He received an accommodation while with Task Force 16, for taking Jimmy Doolittle's bombers to Tokyo in April of 1942.

He also received an accommodation for the Komandorski Battle.

He was on board when the ship entered Dutch Harbor in March of 1943 and going into Kiska, Roy was hurt in August of 1943.

He went from ship's cook, going up through the rates, became Chief Commissary Stewart. He was recommended by then Warrant Officer, ball-red-02 Deceased George Lott.

He left the SLC and went aboard the USS Abbercrombie and ending his career aboard the USS Prairie.
