USS SLC...Enlisted Navy...Michael Harbushka, S1c

US FLAG Michael Harbushka passed away on Feb. 2nd, 1988
Mar. 22nd, 2004

Mike was born on May 17th, 1915 in Chicago, IL. He was orphaned by 1920 and grew up in the Lutheran Children's Home in Maywood, IL., a suburb of Chicago. As he was growing up, he looked up to his older brother John, who lived in San Diego, CA. and had joined the Navy at the age of 17. Mike saw the Navy as his opportunity for an education, so he joined as soon as he was able to leave the orphanage.

He served as an enlisted man and eventually became a warrant officer and a Navy pilot. He saw action in the South Pacific and Africa. He stayed in as a "lifer" and retired in the early 1960's.

He married Charlene Manus of Chicago in 1944 and had two sons, Michael and David, and a daughter, Robin.

Mike passed away on Feb. 2nd, 1988 in Phoenix, AZ. His wife and children survive him.

I can be contacted for information about him.
