This is one of the airplanes aboard the USS SLC It was 1 of 2 planes lost on the SLC from 1942 to Mar. of 1943 while I was on the ship. The plane was not shot up, but had a landing mishap. The pilot & radioman were retrieved from the water by a destroyer & returned to the SLC at a later date. |

Feb. 1st, 1942 Picture taken from USS SLC Bob Casey, reporter from Chicago Sun & Bob Landry, reporter from Life Magazine Report This was the first offensive action by any US Forces since the start of war at Pearl Harbor. This action was against various Islands in the Marshall Island chain by Cruisers, Destroyers, and planes from the USS Enterprise. |
