USS SLC...Officer...Franklin Robert Lloyd, Jr., Lt.. USN

US FLAG Franklin R. Lloyd, Jr., Lt. passed away on Jan. 18th, 2018 at the age of 97. Information from Richard Noar who had several visits with Mr. Lloyd over the last few years.

Frank was a single 18 year old when he entered the Navy. He attended the Naval ROTC School in Berkeley, CA. and graduated on May 1st, 1942 as an Ensign in Communication.

He boarded the USS SLC CA25 on Aug. 19th, 1942 and was with the 4th Division. He left USS SLC CA25 on Oct. 29th, 1945. He was discharged from the Navy on Oct. 29th, 1945.

After the service he got married and has two sons and several grandchildren.

Robert Franklin Robert Lloyd, Jr. departed this life on Thursday January 18, 2018 in Santa Rosa, CA. after a brief hospitalization. Born August 13, 1920, he was 97.

A native of Oakland, he was a proud graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, where he was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific on the heavy cruiser USS Salt Lake City, attaining the rank of Lieutenant Commander.

After the war, he joined the Cleveland Twist Drill Company where he worked as a manager and executive in the San Francisco office with brief stints in Los Angeles and Cleveland. He retired in 1982.

A long-time California resident, he lived in Pleasant Hill, Redlands, Millbrae, and, during his retirement years, in the Oakmont community of Santa Rosa. He was a Presbyterian elder and a member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Pleasant Hill, First Presbyterian Church in Redlands, First Presbyterian Church of Burlingame, and Church of the Roses in Santa Rosa. He also was active in the Oakmont Kiwanis and the Oakmont University of California alumni club. An avid fly fisherman, he served as a destination advisor to Santa Rosa-based Fishing International during his early retirement years. This enabled him to travel the world from the Russian Arctic to New Zealand and from the Caribbean to the Republic of Kiribati in the South Pacific.

He was preceded in death in 1981 by his wife, Beryl Robertson Lloyd. He is survived by his son Franklin Robert Lloyd III (Barbara) of Dallas, Texas; his son Dennis Glen Lloyd (Juli) of Claremont, California; his grandchildren F. Robert Lloyd, William A. Lloyd, and Annelise K. Lloyd; his niece, Jeannie Baird Graham; as well as his best friend and long-time companion, Cynthia Cohan of San Mateo, and Cynthia's daughters Cathy Cohan and Suzanne Cohan. A memorial service will be held on Saturday February 24 at 1:00 p.m., Presbyterian Church of the Roses, Santa Rosa.
