My dad was in charge of the boxing squad. He had an "ace" fighter by the name of Ace Duval. He was a welterweight and was "one helluva fighter". There was another fighter from S division that was a great fighter, but he can't recall his name right now.

Here's some interesting anecdotes for you. My dad was granted overnight liberty in Honolulu when the rest of the crew had to be back by ten because his Uncle was a full commander and a skipper of a tug in Pearl. His name was Ellsworth Avery. Even then I guess it wasn't what you knew, but who you knew. He was the youngest man in the Navy to ever make chief quarter master. He was a mustang and retired as full commander. He made the longest tug haul of dry docks in naval history.

Capt. Zack [Ellis M. Zacharius] holds a very fond memory in my father's mind. He shook my dad's hand and gave him a small white Bible, that he still has to this day and told my dad if he ever needed anything not to hesitate to contact him. My dad says he was the greatest military man he ever met.

It's been a very emotional night for my dad...reliving all of this. He said this is enough for tonight, but he has a million other stories he'd like to share. If you can write back to me with inf. and/or requests I'd be more than happy to be the "secretary".
