George J. Saunders passed away on Aug. 22nd, 1992 in Roswell, Fulton, GA. Nov. 15th, 2019 Information & Pictures provided by Richard Hagors, son in law of Lt.(jg) George J. Saunders Message: George J. Saunders was born in Minnesota, Feb. 22nd, 1913. Retired in 1982 in GA. Passed away on Aug. 22nd, 1992 & buried in GA. My father in law was a Bronze Star recipient, and was primarily responsible for the maintenance team of the large gun maintenance. USS Salt Lake was the first to recieve a retrofit to servo-control. He maintained the log of "fixes" used by the entire PAC fleet and respected by many for the accuracy and speed of the guns. The 'kill' record is evidence of why he received the Bronze Star.
