U.S.S. SLC...USN...Lt.(jg) George J. Saunders George J. Saunders passed away on Aug. 22nd, 1992 in Roswell, Fulton, GA. Nov. 15th, 2019 Information & Pictures provided by Richard Hagors, son in law of Lt.(jg) George J. Saunders Message: George J. Saunders was born in Minnesota, Feb. 22nd, 1913. Retired in 1982 in GA. Passed away on Aug. 22nd, 1992 & buried in GA. My father in law was a Bronze Star recipient, and was primarily responsible for the maintenance team of the large gun maintenance. USS Salt Lake was the first to recieve a retrofit to servo-control. He maintained the log of "fixes" used by the entire PAC fleet and respected by many for the accuracy and speed of the guns.
