FLAGBAR

USS SLC...Enlisted Navy...Thomas J. Scalese, Elect. Mate

June 20, 2002

US FLAG Lt.(jg) Thomas J. Scalese, Sr.(USN Retired) was born April 13, 1906 in Haverhill, Mass. and died April 9, 1975 in Hemet, Ca.

I am Thomas J. Scalese Jr., his only child.

I honestly do not know my dad's service date aboard the Salt Lake City. I was born in Tsingtoa, China in July of 1939 while he was aboard the Augusta but I am not positive of that. Later on in the war he was on board some jeep carriers such as the Gilbert Islands and The Belleau Woods.

I do not have his discharge papers. He got out in 1946 or early 47. He joined in 1924 and served 22 years.

He was an Electrician's Mate and probably was a 2nd or perhaps a 1st class in those days. He was commisssioned in WWII and was a Lt. (jg) when he finally left the Navy in 46..

The above picture is of him and I in about 1942. He was a Warrant Officer then I believe.

Thanks again

Thomas J. Scalese,Jr.
