US FLAG Charles Schueneman passed away on Oct. 4th, 2011. Information from grandson Andrew Gretz

My name is Andrew, and my grandfather was on the Salt Lake City from 1944-1946, his name is Charles Schueneman. I have shown him your website and he enjoyed it very much. I was interested in maybe getting some photos from him and have them posted on your site.

I know he has had contact with Myron Varland in the past, but hasn't talked to him in a while. I also know he is interested in reunion information, so I am giving him the address to join your association to get newsletters, reunion info, etc.

Thank You,

Andrew Gretz

Update..Aug. 23rd

I got a little more information from my grandfather about when he was on the SLC and where he was. He was onboard from 1944-46 and he thinks he was in the 5th or 9th Division. He operated the 5" guns and his gunnery officer's name was Harry Fischer, Lt. (jg).

Another name he mentioned in his division was Claremont R. Opp, SSM2c, but I haven't been able to find any info on him. My grandfather is working on finding any pictures he has so I can get them to you. Your website looks great and get's better everytime I check it out.

Thanks for your help.

Andrew Gretz
