USS SLC..."Enlisted Navy"...John F. Sciullo, S1c

US FLAG John F. Sciullo passed away in 1980.
Feb. 14th, 2000

John F. Sciullo S1c
Enlisted in the US Navy on 5/8/44
Boarded SLC on 8/20/44

My brother, John F. Sciullo, was an immigrant coming to the United States in 1928 from Italy. My father was already here and sent for my mother and brother once he could afford it. My younger brother and myself were born in the US. Unfortunately my father died in 1935 and John quit high school and became the bread winner at age 15.

At the outbreak of WWII John was deferred because he was the sole support of a widowed mother with 2 minor children. He did not like being at home while others were called to service so in 1944 he gave up his deferment and went into the Navy.

After the war John went back to work as a millwright for US Steel. He worked there until his death in 1980.
