Boy spy and photo of the USS Salt Lake City

Message from Sandy Eskew, SLC Historian
These pictures have never been seen by the public before.
Mr. Rogers is donating the original pictures and in turn I will send them
to the University of Utah for safe keeping and they will be archived with the
rest of the original SLC memorabilia.

I spoke with Roy Webb at the University and they have a department
that can repair the damage to the original photos. Once that is done I will
replace the damaged picture on this page.

Hi, Mrs. Eskew. My name is Frank Rogers.

Your name was listed on the internet as the contact for the CA-25.

When I was a kid I took a photo of the USS Salt Lake City after it had come back from Bikini. It was docked in Bremerton. WA. at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and I worked on-base at the Officers' Club. On the 5x7 photo I have the ship stretches out about six inches. From the tip of the mast to the waterline the photo measures 3.5 inches. At this point she was no Proud Mary and her damage shows. The bow number is not visible.

The film was developed and printed by me at home because I had taken the photos illegally. (There is a second photo with a panorama of the naval base with the CA-25 in the center.) All photography of the Bikini Test ships had been forbidden. I sweat out the FBI knocking at my door for months afterward.

There are no dates on these but the camera was a Kodak Brownie. I was the photographer and these are now public domain photos.
