USS SLC...Enlisted Navy...Virgil E. Steele, S1c

US FLAG Virgil E. Steele passed away on Jan. 02, 2022. Information from his wife, Martha Steele

May 15th, 2007

Virgil entered the Navy in 1946 and went aboard the USS SLC CA25 and was assigned to the 1st Divison and just in time to take part in Operations Crossroads-Jan. 46- Jul. 46.
In later years, his exposure to all the radiation caused him health problems.

He remembers a SLC veteran by the name of Virgil Stow who was in the "kitchen division". He said that Virgil baked him a birthday cake on his 18th birthday. It was the very first birthday cake that he ever had.
