US FLAG Edward A. Steinhauer passed away on Sept. 11th, 1999
June 1st, 2003

Dear Sandy,

First off, let me say thank you for much hard work on a wonderful and informative website.

I originally found your website while looking for information about my grandfather Edward Steinhauer who served aboard the USS Salt Lake City in WWII, and was listed on your site as a S1C. By the time I became interested in your site, my grandfather had already passed away and I was only going on stories I remembered and the Cruise Book which has been mentioned many times on your website. I especially remember him talking about being just out of Pearl Harbor when it was attacked. I searched every photo on your website hoping to find one that I could recognize my grandfather in, but had no luck.

In my research to find more information about my Grandfather, I discovered that my father-in-law ball-red-02 Deceased Donald O. Brazeal (USS Salt Lake City, 3/28/1937-4/11/1939, USMC) had also served on the Salt Lake City prior to WWII. Since my father-in-law is still alive, I have began to record as much information about his experience as a veteran as possible. I have made a website as a tribute to him at [http://12.33.3.8/users/marks/brazeal/marine" LINK BROKEN] and have recently interviewed him for the Library of Congress Veterans History Project (www.loc.gov/vets). In interviewing my father-in-law I found out his period of service aboard the Salt Lake City and again went to your site to find out where to submit the information. Figuring what the heck, I looked up my grandfather's name again and found that a picture had been submitted with him in it.

Today I have not only found out the period of service for my father-in- law Donald O. Brazeal (LT. COL. USMC RET), but have also seen a picture of my grandfather aboard the Salt Lake City.

Once again thank you for a wonderful website which inspired me to create my website honoring my father-in-law and search out information about my grandfather.

Sincerely,

Mark E. Steinhauer
Grandson of Edward Steinhauer (S2C, Salt Lake City, WWII)
Son-In-Law of Donald O. Brazeal (Pvt, Salt Lake City, 3-28-1937 to 4-11-1939)
