USS SLC...Enlisted Navy...William Eugene Taylor, Medical Dept.
William E. Taylor passed away in 1968
August 22nd, 2008
Dear Sandy,
I recently found your wonderful website.
My Dad, William Eugene Taylor, was on the USS Salt Lake City in the
Aleutians when the ship was attacked in, I believe 1943.
He was born in Pomeroy, Iowa and died unexpectedly in 1968 from
Hodgkin's disease, so I only have some sketchy information from my
Mother about his early life.
I know he was a medic when on the ship. I know he was a Lieutenant JG
at some point, possibly after he left the ship. I know he was
transferred at sea for re-assignment somewhere. I know he was on board
when the ship was attacked in the Aleutians
My Dad went to medical school at the University of Minnesota (Through
the GI bill or a Navy arrangement of some kind) where he became an MD
and practiced until his death.
I am attaching a picture of him before or during his Navy service and
hope someone may remember him or have known him.
Best Regards,
Bill Taylor
Could possibly be in one of the group pictures of the Medical Dept.
