USS SLC...Enlisted Navy...George J. Usher, AMM2c

US FLAG George J. Usher passed away at his home in San Diego, CA. on April 10, 1978
Sept. 28th, 2004

My father was born July 16, 1921 in Kenosha, Wisconsin. He married my mother, Oralyn Hedquist in Provo, Utah on January 21, 1943. Myself, my brother George and my sister Diane were all born at Balboa Naval Hospital. My parents were divorced in the Spring of 1953. My mother brought us to live in Utah where her parents lived. I was 8 years old, my brother was 6 and my sister was 2. I never saw my father again until I was 17, the day after I graduated from high school. I spent a month with him and my grandparents. He and Agnes took me deep sea fishing and then sailing down to Escondido on a large sail boat. He was a true sailor at heart. He really loved surf fishing and barbeques on the beach. I remember spending Christmas Day at the beach. In the late 60's, he married Mary Agnes (I don't know what last name she had then).

They lived in San Diego. He passed away at his home in San Diego, California on April 10, 1978.

George retired from the US NAVY on August 1st, 1969 with a rating of Chief Aviation Machinist's Mate.
