Robert C. Watson passed away on Sept. 10th, 1971

I was amazed at your website on the USS Salt Lake City. Thank you for the wonderful job you have done.

My dad was a member of the SLC crew during WWII. His name was Robert C. Watson and he was from Detroit, Michigan. He was in the Navy from July 3, 1943 to Jan. 10, 1946.

He passed away Sept. 10, 1971 when I was only 12, but I remember some of the conversations we had about his time on the ship. I think my mom still has some items, possibly slides and photos, from his days in the Navy, I will check with her and see if anything is worth sending on to you for inclusion on the website.

My mom has come across a number of other war related items and some wonderful letters from my dad to her (they were just "friends" then) written while he was on the ship. I also have letters written to my dad after the war from several shipmates still on the SLC.

Their names are D. H. Von Drasek, S1c,  L. J. Morris, S1c, J. J. Andrews, MM2c, and Richard Lavelle, SK3c

It does not look like there has been any contact from any of them or their families so far on the site. I will sort through other things and send them along as well.

What a nice thing for me to enjoy the site you have worked on, especially having found it over the Memorial Day weekend when I always think of dad's service on the ship in the war.

Thanks for keeping the ship's history alive, I hope to be able to contribute some more things too!
