USS SLC..."Enlisted Navy"...Lloyd F. Wilbur, GM3c
Lloyd F. Wilbur passed away on July 19, 2014. Information from Al Jowdy and Doris Wilbur March 13th, 2000 Letter from Lloyd F. Wilbur Dear Sandy
I have been looking through some more things and found some that may be of
interest to you. They are some of my personal records
they sent to me. They
would tell you where your father was at during the same time. Your father
and I would have likely gone aboard ship on the same day in Oct. of 1943 and
possibly left it the same day in Dec. of 1945. When we went aboard in Oct.
of 1943, there was a pretty large number of green recruits being shipped out.
Approximately 1000 on the Salt Lake. Some were selected to stay aboard ship
and some went to commando training in Pearl Harbor. Looking back now, I am
sure we were the lucy ones. Sorry I can not remember your father, but
will look at the web site again in a day or so. |
