US FLAG Cecil LeRoy "Roy" Wood passed away in 1990
Mar. 30th, 2009

Hello Sandra,

My father Cecil L. Wood was part of the Marine contingent aboard the maiden cruise [1929] of the SLC. You have a photo of him with D. L. Webster on the web site. I have many photos from the SLC, some with names.

My father went on to serve almost 29 years in the Marine Corps. He was captured in the Philippines and spent 44 months as a POW of the Japanese after surviving one of the death cruises. He was used as a convict laborer in a steel mill and mines, among other places.

He later spent 2 years in Korea and retired in the mid fifties. Regrettably I also could not get him to talk about his experiences and so much personal history was lost.

Son, Donald Wood [aka "Woody"]
