USS SLC...Enlisted Navy...Blake T. Wright, S2c
This message was sent on Jan. 26th, 2005. No other contact since then. Sandy, My name is Charles Lankford and last served aboard the LST 308 during WWII making assault landings in Sicily and Italy. While waiting on South coast of England for the Invasion of France I was the only man selected from my ship to return to the United States for the purpose of reporting to the staging area in Norfolk VA for transportation to the Pacific Theater. Blake T. Wright, my Uncle, served aboard the USS Salt Lake City CA 25 I am assuming he served aboard from the beginning of WWII until the end. He was USNR, Rank, 2nd. Class Seaman. He returned home to Tennessee, married, and has two children. He retired as a Clerk from the NC and St. Louis Railroad Co, Bruceton, TN. Currently I am researching Genealogy and Naval History, and asked Blake if it was alright to contact your web site and submit his Photo. I am sending him the history of the Salt Lake City along with your planned Reunion this September. He was delighted to know this could be done. W/Best wishes for your project Charles Lankford SM 1st.
