FLAGBAR 501x15

Because we have sailed with you to the far places through foul weather and fair.

Because with you we have watched the tall fires of Wotje burning.

Because with you we have watched the black smoke and brown dust rising from Wake Island.

Because during the days and the nights since you have been with us we have steamed safely through submarine waters, past the bursting shells of shore batteries, out from under the bombs of attacking planes, and avoided dangers of navigation and collision.

Because you have kept our hearts and courage high in the face of danger by your confidence in us and in your ship;

We the undersigned say farewell to you with a deep sense of personal loss.

Our sincerest best wishes go with you as you leave us, and we know surely that in your new task the Navy as a whole will benefit greatly.

We are proud to have served with you.
