Hauling an Oar for the Honor of Their Ship, 1938
US FLAGBAR

"Stroke!" yells Coxswain Mike Bruno of the cruiser Salt Lake City's racing boat crew, and these 10 sturdy, strapping, stalwart sweep-swingers slap their oars into the water and bend their muscles for the glory of their ship. This "dark horse" crew was one of the eight ready Saturday to fight it out over a Willamette river course for the Portland Fleet week championship. The Salt Lake City was "All-Navy Champions" in 1933, 1935 and 1936, and holds the Atlantic fleet challenge trophy.
