OSU2 Kingfisher taxing on to a cargo net used in the recovery of the aircraft. Robert M. Epperson in the back seat. He said the wing tip was damaged on take off when the plane was catapulted off the SLC. Something about the alignment marks on the gun deck used by the catapult crew were painted over. When they were re-painted they didn't get the marks back in the right place. Thus - eighteen inches of the wing hit a gun turret the next time they launched the plane. |
