Aboard a Heavy Cruiser in the Western Pacific****(Speaking of the SLC)
Three Tulsa, Oklahoma Navy men have added a star to their Asiatic-Pacific
ribbon for participating in the bombardment and invasion of Iwo Jima aboard
this ship.
Only 725 miles from Tokyo, in the Volcano Islands, Iwo Jima already has proved
its worth as an air base for planes raiding the Japanese homeland.
The new star symbolizes the grueling weeks when this warship hurled hundreds
of tons of shells against the enemy stronghold.
The Tulsa men are Kenneth B. Henderson, S1c, USNR, 2525 E. Admiral Pl., whose
mother, Mrs. Homer Pannel, lives at Pauls Valley, OK.;
James N. Forrester,
Fireman 1c, USNR, son of Mr. & Mrs. J. T. Forrester, 431 1/2 S. Evanston;
and
Homer W. Lucas, Private 1c, USMCR, son of Mr. & Mrs. Fred W. Lucas, 4144
E. Admiral Pl.
