USS SLC...Enlisted Navy...Charles R. Hudson, S1c

Dec. 26th, 2000

I was exploring the SLC site and was surprised to find pictures of my father. I recognized my father, Charles R. Hudson, #31, in the 2nd Division picture. This is a very nice site. A lot of love, time and effort has gone into this site. I thank you for the glimpse into the past.

His record book was destroyed in a government building fire. I understand the government lost more records in that fire than any other.

My best estimate is that my father served onboard the SLC from 1943-45. I remember him telling me about the battle of Komandorski, Iwo, and Okinawa.

I had the privilege of doing a battle study on Iwo Jima. I spent 5 days there in 1993. I had a book that showed the shelling assignments of each ship. I walked the ground of the SLC's assigned area, or at least one of them. It was an unforgettable experience.
