If you wish to hell you're dreaming When the shells are whistling and screaming, My friend it's not for you to seek pity for this is the SALT LAKE CITY. When the night is dark and dreary, And your bones are tired and weary; Don't shake when you hear that "G.Q." For you're on the "Salty Maru." When the lookouts scream and shout And the scopes are showing like sprouts, There's no need to quake at the knees For you are on the "Queen of the Seas." If you're where the fish are all tin And that wake ain't made by a fin, Cheer up for you are not through This is the "Blitzie Maru." If that is a roaring you heard And those wings ain't quite like a bird, What's a bomb down the engine room hatch? Uncle John'll throw on a patch. The Queen has seen many a mile But she'll hang together a while, If the going gets tough, never fear She's bound to get back where there's beer. She's a fighter through and through With the world's best cruiser crew. So if you can't get here to see us fight Meet us in 'Frisco next liberty night'. So here's to the "Blitzie Maru"-- Her guns, her Captain, her crew; For who'll see Tojo's last dive The "SALT LAKE CITY", CA-Twenty Five. |
