USS SLC..."Enlisted Navy...Ben Lichtman, BM2c
Message from Sandy Eskew I found Ben's name on the Internet and wrote to him and ask him if he would like to be added to the USS SLC Website since he was a WWII Veteran and served on the USS SLC. Below is his reply. I will join the shipmates on the SLC site and would appreciate any contact you have. I served on the SLC from Dec. 8 1941 until Apr. 1943. I did attend one reunion but then lost contact. I served in ZP's, VC-4, VC-33, VW-2 and on various carriers in detachments with VC-4 and VC-33 and during WW2 on the USS Salt Lake City and at Pearl on the Battleship USS West Virginia (BB-48) http://www.usswestvirginia.org I was in the Fifth Div. and Master at Arms before I was transfered while in the yard for repairs in 43. I was in Blimps for 5 years. Then in carrier type aircraft in VC4 and VC33, then shore duty at Johnsville, PA with Mats VR 6 at Mcguire AFB, then VW 2 at Pax River, MD. I retired as a AMC. Went to Drexel University and got my degree in engineering. I worked for Honeywell for about 10 yrs then finished up with the US Gov. I finally retired Jan 87. I lost my wife of 56 yrs two weeks ago.
