Sandy,

I am in the middle of reading - Abandon Ship- about the sinking of the Indianapolis on this date in 1945. I called my father in law, James Francis McCorriston, who served on the Salt Lake City in the Aleutians.

He told me the story of how she took 5-eight inch shells and was taking on water and dead in the water- and how the officers and crew saved the day. I hear a Unit Citation was awarded. Thanks - from me to all of you- for your selfless bravery and sacrifice to keep us free.
