Fred P. Mumpower passed away on July 11, 2007-Information from W. Yates & the Las Vegas Review-Journal Fred Patrick Mumpower, born March 17, 1925, in Twin Falls, Idaho, passed away Wednesday, July 11, 2007 in Las Vegas. He was raised in Twin Falls, then the family moved to Los Angeles. Fred joined the U.S. Navy during World War II, serving on the USS Salt Lake City. He returned to Los Angeles and worked as a machinist for Douglas Aircraft. Fred met Mary L. Henstrom in 1952, and they married April 5, 1953. That same year, he passed the test for the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department, where he worked in the ID room/crime lab for 13 years. Fred moved to Las Vegas in 1967, and worked in the crime lab as a supervisor at the Clark County Sheriff's Department and at the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. After 20 years at Metro, Fred retired in 1988. He was called the "Midnite Idol." He loved fishing and hunting and being with his loving family. Fred is survived by his wife, Mary L. Mumpower; sons, Terry A., Michael and Mark D. Mumpower, and daughter, Penny and his trusty dog, Tasha. SLC Deck Logs Oct. 1943 Jul. 1944 |
