US FLAG Harold A. Nicholas passed away on May 7, 2010. Information from obituary sent in by Richard Noar

Harold went aboard the USS SLC CA25 on March 18th, 1942 and served in the "M" & "B" Divisions until Oct. of 1943. He was then assigned to the USS YARNALL DD541

Obituary

Harold Arthur Nicholas, 89 of Barling, AR passed away Friday, May 7, 2010 in Fort Smith.

He was born on January 29, 1921 in Mount Ida, AR to James and Lucy Nicholas. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church and retired from Getty Oil after 30 years of service.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II serving from 1941 to 1945 on the USS Yarnall DD541 and the USS Salt Lake City CA25. He received the Navy Unit Commendation for outstanding heroism while serving on the Salt Lake City.

Services with military honors were Tuesday May 11, 2010 at the U.S. National Cemetary Pavillion in Fort Smith.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary E. Nicholas and many other family and friends.
