Charles Payne was drafted during his Senior year of high school on Dec. 1st, 1943. His weapons qualifications: Rifle E R & Bayonet. He was a Machine Gunner on the 40mm. He served in the Pacific area on the USS SLC CA25 with the Marine Detachment and participated in action against the enemy while aboard ship. He was a PFc when he was discharged on Nov. 29th, 1945.
