USS SLC...Enlisted Navy...Henry H. Pees, SSMC3c
Henry Pees passed away on April 23, 1993
Sept. 1st, 2001
Hello,
I am the granddaughter of Henry Pees, with whom the picture on the
internet is showing of my grandfather and
Robert E. Grizzell.
Sept. 9th, 2001
About a week ago, you gave me Mr. Robert Grizzell's address so that I
could write to him. Well he was able to write me back and I'd like to take
the time to Thank Mr. Grizzell for writing me back.
It seems from Mr. Grizzell that grandfather and him were, in his eyes,
great pals. They first met in Dutch Harbor, Alaska in 1943. They worked
together a 40 MM aircraft battery in top shape.
The picture was taken in Pearl Harbor at a sidewalk photo shop in Sept. of
1943. Their ship was given liberty after they moored and secured the ship,
they were able to leave the ship. That is were and how they came across
the photographer.
Mr Grizzell was at sometime transfered to another division and saw my
grandfather only a few times a week. They were supposed to have a later
photo taken but never did.
Mr Grizzell ends his letter with "Henry Pees was a good man and I'll never
forget him." So I say to Mr. Grizzell, "Thank you for the history you
have shared with us, we will never forget you."
My Uncle also said my grandfather talked very highly of a man that
went by the nickname BIG SWED. If that rings a bell my uncle would like
to know. I am going to give your address to him, maybe he can tell you
some more.
Thank You,
Amy Sawyer, G-Daughter
