Here are two pictures for you to use on the SLC site. The one above is my ID photo taken just a few days before being assigned to the SLC. The one to the left is at my Boot Camp graduation.

I completed boot camp at Great Lakes Naval Training Center in early Sept., 1942. I then traveled by train to the west coast and embarked on USS Henderson for Pearl Harbor. At the Receiving Station I was assigned to the SLC and went aboard in early Nov. 4th, 1942. During this period I became a "striker" in the Medical Dept. and eventually recieved orders back to the states for training.

I need to mention here that I was an underage enlistee and actually passed my 15th birthday on May 3rd, 1943, while on board SLC. I think the senior medical officer, somehow, was aware of that and during our return to the states for battle damage repair, he made arrangements for me to be transferred. I was on the SLC until June 26th, 1943.

In the war years that followed I was on duty with Fleet Marine Force (4th Marine Division) and participated in the invasion of the Marshall Islands and Iwo Jima.
