US FLAG Leo John Sell passed away in Oct. of 2004. Information from grand daughter Holly

May 29 2008

I just recently found your website dedicated to the USS Salt Lake City. My grandfather served on board the Salt Lake City during the Pacific Campaign of WWII. He is on your list of crew members as L.J. Sell.

I am sorry to say the my grandfather, Leo John Sell passed away in October 2004. My father and I have some of his diaries and logs from the war, and once we get them compiled, we'd like to send them to you to share on your site.

We found a photo of the L Division (his division) and as I didn't see one on the site. My father also found the plans for the invasion of Iwo Jima in my grandfather's things, as well as notebooks that he kept on a day-to-day basis. I also have two letters written by my grandmother (a "Rosie") to my grandfather. I can also send them to you if you'd like.

I wish I'd known about your site when my grandfather was still with us, but I know that he would be happy to know that people like you are determined to give recognition and honor to the men on the Salt Lake City.

Thank you for all you do for our WWII vets.
Sincerely,

Holly Sell and Edward Sell
