USS SLC..."Enlisted Navy"...Oscar W. Silleman, SK2
April 14th, 2000 Enlisted Sept. 26, 1940 & went to Boot Camp NIS, San Diego, CA. I made friends with Joe Driscol while there. After finishing training, Joe & I went on boot leave to my home in Sylmar, CA. (see picture below) Joe & I went on board the SLC on Dec. 11, 1940. I went into the 3rd Division & had quite a surprise seeing that Max O. Ewing, SK1c & LeRoy E. Ewing, SK1c were aboard. I knew them from high school in San Fernando, CA. I was transferred to the Supply Division sometime in 1942. I worked in GSK as Storekeeper & also clothing & small stores. I was promoted to SK3c on March 1st, 1943 & to SK2c on Jan. 1, 1944. I was transferred to new construction on Aug. 8th, 1944 on the USS BLADEN, APA63. I was promoted to SK1c while aboard. I received my Honorable Discharge from the USN in Aug. 1946....6 year enlistment. Thank You, Oscar W.
