Allen, received the Distinguished Service Medal [year unknown]. He contributed to the success of all forces in the Central Pacific by routing, unloading, and scheduling vital merchant shipping for the operatons in the Western Carolines, Philippines, Iwo Jima and Okinawa.

Capt. Allen was an excellant Captain who was well liked by the crew. He was a true picture of an old sea captain. I remember seeing him on the bridge at sea and he always had his binoculars hanging from his neck, smoking a pipe and his face was weather "bitten". He reminded me of a storybook skipper. He would come to the bridge, observe everything, then very quietly be gone.
