Monday's $2.50 daily award in "The Oregonian's Fleet week Bulls eye feature was claimed by Joseph W. Witkowski, S1c/FC2c, of the USS SLC CA25.

"My old boss on the Greenwich, CO., News and Graphic sure would have liked this bulls eye stunt," said Witkowski, who was employed in the circulation department of the Greenwich newspaper before enlisting in the Navy 2 1/2 years ago.

Witkowski is on the Deck Force of the SLC but is "Striking" to win the rating of a seaman 3rd class and become a fire control man.

"Maybe it's because they don't see as many sailors as people do in other ports, or maybe it's because they're just friendly naturally, but Portlanders show us more respect and a better time than residents of any other port we visit. You sure have pretty girls in Portland, too."
