US FLAG Frank Bell, Jr. passed away on August 15th, 2011. Information from daughter, Francis Stewart
November 18th, 2002

Frank Bell joined the Navy in Wesloaco, TX. at the age of 17. He served on the SLC from 1942 until 1946 & was in the 5th Division. At the end of WWII, he was part of the crew that participated in "Operation Crossroads".

He received 9 medals during his time in the service.

Below is a picture of the model of the SLC that Frank built out of heavy aluminum. He has taken it to several SLC Association reunions. It measures 9' 3" in length; 26" in width; 48" in height, and weighs 200 pounds.

He built it in his spare time over a period of three years. The detail is remarkable.
The Model has it's "Own Room" in Frank & Nola's home
