I came across your web site while researching family history. I was interested in information about the ships on which my Dad and his brother served during WW II. My uncle was on the SLC and my Dad the USS Firedrake. I was shocked and thrilled to find my uncle's pictures among the multitude of wonderful information on your site. His name is C. V. Brandon. It seems that a Mr. Jim Forrester posted the pictures and was interested in knowing what happened to C. V.

I sent an e-mail to ball-red-02 Deceased Jim Forrester, but have not received a reply as yet. Do you know if he is still available at the address posted? I would love to hear from him and anyone else who knew my uncle.

Thank you, Sue

Thank you so much for responding to my e-mail regarding Jim Forrester and my uncle C. V. Brandon. I'm happy to say I did hear from Jim. He had some wonderful stories to tell. We would love to have a page in honor of C. V. I spoke with my cousin, she was thrilled. We will send you the picture and information soon. I can't thank you enough.

Clarence was born June 7, 1925 in Union, Iowa. I think he took basic training in Great Lakes area. On Oct. 9, 1943 he went aboard the USS Salt Lake City in route to Hawaii for assignment. Along the way, he was assigned to the Salt Lake City in their electrical division. He was assigned to the power shop, where they took care of all the motors and generators. His battle station was the #2 turrett, which had 3 8" guns.

He was discharged from the Service on May 8, 1946 and married Faye Fox on Jun. 10, 1946 of Marshalltown, Iowa. They moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa and had six children. They have 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He continued in the electrical field repairing electrical systems in automobiles.

I'm very grateful to Jim Forrester. He has given us some wonderful stories of my Uncle's years aboard the Salt Lake City. We keep in touch often. I have found a wonderful friend.

Thank you so much for everything. Without your site I would not have found Jim. And that would be a real tragedy.
