US FLAG

Aug. 2nd, 2017
It is my sad duty to report that my grandfather, Earl E. Craig, has passed away today, Aug 2nd, 2017. He had been suffering from dementia and was moved to a memory care facility 2 years ago. Even in his declining mental state, he still smiled when one of his grandkids or great grandkids came to see him. He loved mexican food and we tried to take him out to eat at least once a month. He passed peacefully and painlessly.
Sincerely,
Steve Craig, former ET2

My grandfather's name is Earl E. Craig. I believe he served on board between 43-45. I think he was a BM3c. [Records show S1c-S. Eskew] I don't know what division he was in, but he did talk about loading the 16in gun. He had some kind of back injury which got him discharged.

I haven't heard too many stories about his shipmates. I found 2 of his pictures on the website, and he asked me if that was really him. I moved to the Kwajalein Atoll in 2000 to work for the government, and when I told him he said they bombed the hell out of this place.
