Transferred from Great Lakes Naval Training Station, Great Lakes, IL. to the heavy cruiser, USS Salt Lake Ctiy on Nov. 26th, 1942
Promoted to Shipfitter 3c on Mar. 01, 1943
Promoted to Shipfitter 2c on Dec. 01, 1943
Transferred to USS Pokomoke Naval Hospital for treatment of leg injury on Jan. 01, 1944
Transferred back to the SLC for duty on May 01, 1944
Transferred to new construction on Aug. 17, 1944

Since John enlisted at the age of 39, he was older than most of the new recuits and was nicknamed "Pappy" by them. Prior to enlistment he work at the Kearny Shipyards in Kearny, NJ. John has 1 daughter, Joan and 2 grandchildren.
