US FLAG Alex Mihalka passed away in 1989
Aug. 28th, 2001

Sandy,

I was surprised to see my father's name on your web page. Since the movie Pearl Harbor, I've had a renewed interest in what my father did during the war years. He passed away in 1989, and now I wish I had had the foresight to ask him about the war.

He served on the USS OKLAHOMA, then the USS SALT LAKE CITY. There were two letters written that mentioned him. I would like to correspond with these men if possible. [See links below]

He was on deck of the USS OKLAHOMA as the planes came upon Pearl. He jumped from the rolling ship as it sank and was picked up from the burning water by a life boat. He then went with the life boat to help other men in the water.

During all the confusion, he ended up on a sub with their crew and was listed as missing in action because they did not know where he was. He was then assigned to the SLC.

He never talked about the war years, just bit and pieces... now and then. I wished I would have asked. However, I do have two articles from the local newspapers in which he retells his story of Pearl.

I have many pictures from my fathers war years and would like to share them. I guess I need to study all you have on this web.

I plan on spending more time on your sight....thanks for keeping the history alive!
